3 Mindfulness Tips for Weight Loss

Updated: Jul 18, 2022

In this video, I share 3 simple mindset tips so you are able to stay on your weight loss journey for the long term.

That you're gonna look like a supermodel within a couple of weeks.

My name is Daniel Welstead. Plant-based Vegan, personal trainer in Sevenoaks. As you know, I've been vegan now for three and a half years. I've also been a personal trainer for coming up to a decade now. I'm also a mindfulness coach.

And this all amalgamates into one when it comes to exercise, fat loss and diet, making sure your mind is right, your nutrition is right, that you can cook and you can exercise properly, they are all part of one large package that is weight loss. So I want to share with you three mindset tips to be able to succeed with your weight loss in the long run. Tip number one stop Comparing yourself to Others when you compare yourself to others, it sets unrealistic targets in your head that you're going to look like a supermodel within a couple of weeks. And then after those couple of weeks when they pass by and you're not looking like that supermodel, you're going to become demoralised and you're going to dislike the journey that you're on. Comparing yourself to others is one of the most pointless things you can ever, ever do.

When you compare yourself to others, you don't understand their backstory. You don't know how much hard work they've already done. They might have been training for 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years to get the physique that they're in currently. You might be watching this and be sitting on the sofa, and you may never have exercised in your life. So stop comparing yourself to others.

Tip number two is to be realistic. Just like in the last tip, you can't expect to get phenomenal results in a short period of time. If that was possible, everybody would look like a million dollars. Set realistic goals. Allow yourself to fail.

When you allow yourself to fail, the progress is going to be slower, but the journey is going to be longer. By doing it this way, you'll be able to learn from all of your past mistakes every time you've slipped up in the past. Why learn from that? You might not drop a dress size in a month. You might not drop a dress size in three months if you drop a dress size over a year and then the next year you keep down at that lower dress size level, that's got to be better than your yoyo dieting from the past.

By allowing yourself to fail, you're also able to enjoy the journey. You can give yourself a night or two off a week where you can enjoy the foods that you like. Or just like me, you can have a good beer or glass of wine. It means you stop resenting the journey that you're on and you're able to actually enjoy it.

Tip number three is to be in the moment.

Like I said at the beginning, I'm a mindfulness coach as well. Being able to be in the moment to be in the now. Like you are watching me, listening to me right this minute is so important. We live such a hectic life where we're always checking our phones, we're always checking our messages. We're thinking about the past and we're thinking about the future, but we're not actually enjoying the now.

The next time you're having a conversation with someone, being grossed in the conversation, put your phone elsewhere. If thoughts come into your mind about what you did yesterday, or what someone said to you yesterday, come back to the now. Refocus. Get yourself back in the moment. It's easier said than done.

It takes a lot of practice to be able to be good at mindfulness and to be able to be right in the now. There are some great tips on how to be in the moment, and one of them that I like is called active meditation. And it sounds a bit like an oxymoron. How can you meditate while you're being active? But for me, active meditation is by being in the moment.

Say, for example, you're washing up. Feel how soft the soap suds are on your skin. Feel the temperature of the water, how clean the plates coming out. Look out the window and just see how the birds fly. Are the plants flowering?

What colour is the sky? Simple things like that are able to reformat your mind. So when you are in a moment of madness, when you're anxious about the future and you're depressed about the past, you are able to appreciate the now. If you like this video and you found it helpful, it really means a lot to me that you hit the like button. The more likes I get, the more views I get, the more comments I get, the more this video goes up through the ranking and therefore it gets viewed by more people.

And that's my goal, to be able to share my message with as many people as possible. Comment below. Have you just started to use your mind a little bit more throughout your weight loss journey? And until next time, see you soon.
