Hello. My name is Daniel Welstead and I'm a plant-based vegan personal trainer who's been training people in Sevenoaks for nearly a decade now. As you know, Seven Oaks has got lots of personal trainers. And that's a great thing. It's a great thing for you simply because you're able to choose from a lot of different trainers.
So what sets me apart from all those guys?
I've been vegan now for coming up to four years. I've also been a personal trainer within Seven Oaks for coming up to a decade. Now. This gives me loads of experience and huge education. So I'm able to show you how to lose weight your way.
Not just this cookie-cutter plan that most trainers give you, but what I think separates me apart from most people in my past. My past as a drug-addicted professional chef who worked all kinds of hours under massive pressure, where I ultimately relied on sleeping tablets to get me to sleep. This addiction led me into deeper and deeper depression. Not only couldn't I sleep, I felt like a zombie the next day on these tablets. This meant I gained lots of weight, I didn't exercise, and ultimately, I had to leave the kitchens professionally because of my health.
After years of battling with my weight as a child, my weight just kept going on and coming on and coming on. And when I left the kitchens, that accelerated because I was no longer moving. Then one day I woke up and I decided I'd absolutely had it. I couldn't take any more of it. I was losing my life, I was losing my personality, I was losing my relationships with people, and most importantly, I was losing the relationship I had with myself.
One morning, I decided that you know what, instead of taking the tablets this evening, in which I was seven times the amount I should really be taking, I have to come off. I had no choice. I decided that I needed to physically tire myself out so much that I could come off the tablets. It was hard. The withdrawals were incredibly painful, but I did it.
And it was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my life. And I kept feeling better and better and better about the actions that I was taking. And then suddenly I and other people started to notice that I was losing weight and I was looking good and I was feeling good. I kept talking to people. My energy and my vibe with them inspired them also to lose weight.
I got a massive buzz from this, and that's where I connect with you. Unlike most cookie-cutter personal trainers, they've always loved exercise that has always eaten well. They've always looked after themselves. That's not me. I was never that person.
With this knowledge and with this experience, I'm able to inspire you, to be able to motivate you so you're able to ultimately succeed, whether that be with weight loss, whether that be with strength, flexibility, fitness, or ultimate happiness. Not only am I a fully qualified, highly experienced personal trainer, not only am I a vegan nutrition coach, but I'm also a mindfulness coach as well. Two years ago, I qualified as a mindfulness therapist. And this is one of the most amazing things in my toolbox to be able to help people get beyond not only their physical barriers but their emotional and mental barriers as well. As I've mentioned already, I'm a vegan nutrition coach, and that's given me an extra avenue to work with clients.
And in fact, I only take on people that are either on a vegan diet or striving to be on a vegan plant-based diet. If you're not, then I'm not going to be the right trainer for you and you should go somewhere else. As I mentioned before, I'm a professional chef, and to be able to cook healthy weight loss food makes such a difference when it is so tasty and so delicious and so incredibly rewarding to eat, within a month or two, you won't want to go back to the junk you're eating. And with the skills and knowledge, I'm able to show you how to cook more efficiently in the kitchen. Now, my style of training is completely different to others.
I don't just focus on one style of training. For me, I have a holistic approach. I like to be able to give you what your body needs specifically. Say, for example, you come to me and say, dan, I want to get fitter. Okay?
During a consultation, I'll identify your strengths and weaknesses. With that, I specifically specialise in building your weaknesses first. Say, for example, you want to get fitter, like I just said, but your hips are stiff, your groin is stiff, your quads are tight, and your glutes are tight. Straight away, I'm not going to get you running. I'm not going to get you sprint training.
I'm not going to get you jumping. I only getting you mobile. I only get everything open, and ready, so you're able to sprint, jump and run quicker, faster and safer. So within our first few weeks, I really focus on things that you probably don't want to work on. If we went out running straight away, the likelihood is you're going to get injured.
If you get injured, you're going to lose motivation and momentum, and you're going to be back to square one in no time. The time will come for the hard-hitting workouts. The time will come when you'll be benching and you'll be doing pullups. The time will come when you'll be sprinting up those long, massive, steep hills. The time will come when you'll beat the living daylights out of me when we're boxing.
And it's so important that you understand that this is how it works. There are no ifs, there are no buts. I want you to succeed in the long term. So just to conclude, I'm not your usual personal trainer. I don't like exercise.
I don't like eating clean. But I do it simply because I know what life is like without it, and life is so much worse without it. And this is probably why you're watching this video right now.
